Switching over to green energy. Using clean and renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power systems, can help the environment and save you money.

Turning Thermostat down in winter, up in summer. Half of the energy used in a home is through heating and cooling. By turning the thermostat down 2 degrees in winter and up 2 degrees in summer, around 2000 pounds of carbon dioxide in a year could be saved just by making this adjustment.

Turning electric devices off when not in use. Turning off your tv, computer, stereo and dvd player can save thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide per year.

Using less hot water. A considerable amount of energy is used to heat water. By washing clothes in warm or cold water can save 500 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. Also, installing a low-flow showerhead can save 350 pounds of carbon dioxide in a year.

Insulating and weatherizing your home. 25% of heating costs can be saved by insulating walls and ceilings. This amounts to 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide saved per year. Weatherstripping and caulking can save 1,700 pounds of carbon dioxide every year.

Recycling at home. Recycling half of your household waste can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide in a year.

Replacing filters regularly in furnace and air conditioner. Just by cleaning or changing dirty air filters saves 350 pounds of carbon dioxide in a year.

Run dishwasher only when full load. Running your dishwasher when there is a full load and using the energy-saving setting can save 100 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Buying recycled paper products. Not only does recycling paper prevent the loss of forests but 70% to 90% less energy is used to make recycled paper.
